NAXIELI GÓMEZ

Naxieli Gómez, a self-described “graphic designer, animator, illustrator, web developer, geek, [and] painter” began her career in 2001 as an animator and prop designer for the live children’s television show Zona O, which was broadcasted by Canal Once, a Mexican educational broadcast television network owned by Instituto Politécnico Nacional. One of her many projects for the station was “cháscalas.” The piece features a set of musical smiley faces that turn different colors as they sing “yo” to the creation of a melody. Her work garnered her a gold, silver, and bronze PROMAX Broadcast Design Award. A few years later, Gómez, then an independent artist, designed and animated the pilot series Upsi Dupsi. Today, she works as a freelance graphic designer and painter.

“I discovered La Peña many years ago, before I moved to Austin, actually… I met Cynthia, and I love that woman. She’s incredible. And I just kept coming back here for an art exhibit, and honestly there’s not many places where you can go and look at Latino art.”
